Privacy
We collect as little as we can. You do not need an account, and we never ask for your name, email or phone number to rate a film. Joining with your email is optional.
What we store when you rate
- Your score and your answers to the short questions (day watched, fan or not, and any optional ones you fill in).
- The date and time of the rating.
- A scrambled version of a random device ID, to stop the same device rating a film twice. We cannot turn it back into your cookie or identify you from it.
- A scrambled version of your network (IP) address, to limit repeat ratings. We erase it after 7 days.
Cookies
We set one cookie called rid_dev. It holds a random ID and lasts up to two years. It is used only to prevent duplicate ratings. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. If you delete it, we cannot link your earlier ratings to you, and you could rate a film again.
If you pick light or dark mode, your choice is saved in your browser (as rid_theme) so the site remembers it. It never leaves your device.
Trailers
Some film pages have a Watch trailer button. Nothing from YouTube loads until you press it. When you do, the trailer plays from YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube's own privacy policy applies to that video.
If you join with your email
You do not need to join to rate a film. If you do, here is what we keep:
- Your email address, when you joined, and when you confirmed it with the link we email you.
- The exact wording of the updates you agreed to when you joined, and when.
- A scrambled version of your network (IP) address for 7 days, to stop bots and mass sign-ups.
When you confirm your email you can choose a username and, if you like, a password. We store the username, and the password only in scrambled (hashed) form, so we cannot read it. We also keep the time of your last login. Login uses a cookie called rid_sess, plus a small rid_hint cookie that tells the page to check whether you are logged in.
Ratings and your account. A rating you give without logging in stays anonymous: it is not linked to your email or account. A rating you give while logged in is a verified rating and is linked to your account in our database, so we can allow one per film and count it as verified. We never publish whose rating it is. Only totals and averages appear on the site. If you delete your account, your ratings stay but are no longer linked to you, and count as unverified.
Diary, watchlist and profile. Logged-in members can mark films as watched or add them to a watchlist. We store which film, the date you gave, and when you last changed it. All of this is private to you by default. If you choose to make your profile public in your account settings, anyone with the link can see your username, the month you joined, the films in your diary and the ratings you gave them, and your watchlist only if you also switch that on. Your email address is never shown. Public profiles ask search engines not to index them. You can make your profile private again at any time, and deleting your account removes your diary and watchlist.
Agreeing to receive updates is part of joining. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and the page behind it lets you stop updates or delete your email for good. Film makers can pay us to send their news to members who agreed to hear from them, but we send it ourselves and they never see your address. We do not sell or give your email address to anyone.
Addresses that are not confirmed within a week are deleted. Our emails go out through our hosting provider's mail system or a mail-sending service, which handle them only to deliver them.
Cloudflare Turnstile
The rating and sign-up forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. Cloudflare may process technical information from your browser to do this under its own privacy policy.
What we publish
Only totals and averages, and only for groups with enough ratings that no one can be picked out. Individual ratings are never published.
Hosting
This site is hosted with MilesWeb in India. Ratings are stored in a database on that service.
Deleting your rating
Ratings given while logged in are listed in your account, and deleting your account unlinks them from you. Ratings given anonymously cannot be traced to you, so we cannot look one up on request. If you rated anonymously by mistake, write to us with the film name and the approximate time and we will do our best to help.
